I’ve seen a few explanations as to why people collect fakies, so I wanted to know what all you guys have as reasons for collecting them!
For me, I had a lot of them as a child. Some Lanards, magic ponies and I *think* I may have owned a Buddy L and Fake Remcos. I only had two MLPs, the birthday pony and baby Bowtie And I guess when I seen fakies again after getting into MLP collecting, it brought those memories back. But for me, it’s more than that. One of my fave toys as a child was a baby Lanard pony I had called Sunshine, you can only imagine how crap I feel for no longer having her, or any of my childhood ponies, but she was very VERY special to me and I made a lot of adventures with her, I never knew the difference between fakies and MLPs as a kid, to me it was a toy to play with like any other.
I feel bad for fakies. They’re so unloved and unwanted, hated even. Called ugly and creepy and just thrown in the trash, stuck in MLP lots just so people can get rid of them, and are considered not to be “real”. But you can hold them and brush their hair and make them look pretty and play with them just like MLPs, so that is real. I mean, I feel so bad for fakies being ripped on that I even feel bad for the non-pony fakes that I see being discarded or trashed!
So, I collect them to save them and give them loving homes were they are accepted as being just as valuable as any MLP, it’s value in cash or it’s label aren’t important as toys to me are about imagination and being a child again and many children in the world may not have the good fortune to own a collection of MLPs, or even just one MLP, so thanks to fakies, they can.
Plus there are SO many kinds of fakies that you could never get bored searching for new ones! They have so many varying colours, accessories, styles, poses etc what’s not to like about that? Variation in collecting is great because you could never get bored.
So, why do YOU collect fakies fellow fakie brethren?

My firstpony I remember aside from Bow Tie and Cotton Candy was a yellow glow in the dark donkey fakie with a rainbow mane and tail. He was awesome! he would hang out in Dream Castle alongside everyone else I will one day build up a Donkeyfakie Armie to go alongside my Frumpets but I have never got one in a lot or seen one at a bootsale. Yet I love my G1 mold fakies because Frumpets are the original fakies - a fake MLP! I have heard of collecters having Frumpets and know realiseng they are Frumpets, thinking they are rare Nirvanas or something. I have had Frumpets for a while and used to call them "Bow-tie wannabes" cos I only ever had blue ones! I guess also because Hasbro has started making crap MLPs, something needs to fill the gap.

I only had 2 real MLP's as a child, rock n beat sweet notes & baby sparkle gusty (yellow unicorn) and quiet a few fakies, but I just think that alot of them are simply cute, sometimes moreso than real MLP's, for example, I know everyone isnt a fan, but I LOVE cabbage patch ponies, the real ones, to me theyre the cutest thing, fat, stumpy & have gorgeous eyes, I know they arent for everyone, but I think theyre adorable.
I personally collect fakies simply cause I like them.

I love this post. ^_^ I feel the exact same way...fakies are hated on so much that I feel that they deserve EXTRA love. (Yes, random lurkers, we be crazy people 'round here.) I seem to have a soft spot for the especially ugly/terrifying/cheap ones. I also love the variety. Now, more than ever, MLP has ZERO variety for those of use who are bored with the Core 7. (Though I'm bouncy over those mom and baby sets...MUST HAVE PINKIE'S MOM!) But new fakies are being made/discovered all the time, and it keeps it interesting. There's still tons of fakies that we haven't even identified. It's certainly a good time to be a fakie collector.

I like the ugly/creepy looking ones too, I think that's why I fell in love with totsys because so many people kept howling about how ugly and creepy they where and throwing them out but they looked so cute and different to me
I haven't seen mum and baby sets, what are those like? I've only come across baby ponies, ponyville and the 3.5 molds of the core 7 where I am :s

Well recentley I was reunited with a Tara pony I had as a child. But I think it's basically the same reason I collect ponies. I've always like My Little Ponies but never really owned any as a child (I had Morning Glory, a few fakies and two G1's I was given by a cousin). I guess I like to collect fakies and ponies because well I'm still into toys when I'm 17 and most people my age 'grew out of' toys when they were about 8 (at least in my school) when I still stayed into them through the whole of Primary School which apparently meant I was 'babyish' and well I just still like toys, it makes me happy to wake up and the first thing I normally see is either a teddy or a group of ponies.
Also I think it's quite 'good' when I take in unwanted ponies and fakies and get them cleaned up and loved again as opposed to them ending up hidden away or thrown. That and fakies come in so many interesting and sometimes 'unique' types. XD

It's a good question, and there are a ton of great answers here.
I had one fakie in particular that I loved when I was little, but my current fakie love is mostly due to a fondness for things that are a little strange and... not widely liked. Fakies are kind of like the unpopular kids with no friends of the pony world, so toy-empathy plays a part. I'm not a big collector, but I enjoy cleaning and selling fakies--not lately, but usually--because we're a smaller and more connected group (or so it seems). Sometimes just belonging to a group is nice.
And Princess Rinse 'N' Spit is beautiful. Can't forget that.

I collect them to give the one I had from childhood a family. I have a few kinds of fakies, but Totsys are really my favorite. I can't really leave a pony behind....mlp or other.

I tend to be a sucker for brightly colored and unpopular toys in general (kind of like me-which is why I like the G3.5s) and I like unicorns and pretty horses, so it all makes sense. I had no MLPs or fakies or anything when I was little, so I guess I am getting them all now. I blame Vetten for turning me on to fakies, by showing me the old My Little Fakie site.

D'aww, MsUnicorn, I'm glad I got you into fakies! ;D
Yes, there are tons of awsome answers here, and I can't really add anything new... Yet I want to say that it's the cute face of a Simba pony that made me love fakies so much, not to mention their flouro colors..

I've always loved all things equine. I had many different horse toys over the years my favorite fakie set is one I had before I really started collecting mlp or fakies - the glittery princess Cabbage Patch ponies. they're gorgeous! and have crowns! and my ponies, fakies, horses, etc all play well together (and have played with non equine toys in the past)
since collecting I've fallen in absolute LOVE with Rinse n Spits (it must be the teeth!) I've also fairly recently aquired a strange attraction to Totsys (it's that evil look in their eyes and the fact that they look so unusual) there are so many different kinds! and I tend to like ones that have their own style and are not mlp-knock-offs (Aside from dg fakie babies which are awesome to customize - and I have 1 of each color to keep....RnS only knocks off the pose, and adds flowers, teeth, sound, light, etc)
I do not buy fakies I don't like in order to "save" them, but they do not scare me away from lots (I just got a HUGE CP fakie in a lot)
and now those little cute nostril ponies have me going ga-ga over them! that nose is sooo cute

Shelle > Yeah, it's such a shame she's taking a break from the fakie side of life :/ But I understand if RL and work gets overwhelming every once in a while.

Vetten > It's a good thing fakies don't have to come between friends. She is the one that gave me my very first fakies, my beloved Skimbley-winks (pink vintage SS Simba earth pony), two drink N' wet babies, and two sitting lanard babies... I need to take a new group pic of my very first fakies, I've lost my original copy. That woulda been more effective in my first post of this thread.. *duh*

Wow this is such a good discussion. I think some of the die-hard fakie haters should read it. Why should anyone hate fakies? It's not like their sales are hurting Hasbro, a company with huge amounts of money. I don't think I had any MLPs when I was little. Of course, I was around during G2, so they weren't as popular, but still..... I only had fakies. They were a lot more affordable and I loved them all the same. I think I had a tara, some Barbie horses, Manleys, and a lanard or two, but my most prized possession was a blue Magic Touch Pony (Made by MGA) that I called the Bravest One (she was the queen of all ponies ). She was pretty much the highlight of my life ^^ I hate it when people take part in these "Destroy A Fakie" events or whatever they are. That's just terrible, and, frankly, terribly stuck-up. I'm sure there's some girl out there who would love to have a fakie.
