Wow! I discovered a possible simple and easy cure for crazy tinsel by accident last night! I was de-tinseling a ratty Star Catcher and by chance, the tweezers I was using got caught on a piece of tinsel and pulled it just enough to stretch, not break. The tinsel then lay straight, almost as if it had never been crinkled in the first place! For the past few hours I have been 'straightening' the tinsel of a G1 pony, and while tedious, seems to be largely effective! Here's what I'm doing: I separate a piece of tinsel, grab the end firmly with a pair of tweezers and gently pull the tinsel taut, I then gently but firmly pull to stretch the tinsel just a tiny bit before releasing it. I would suggest perfecting your technique on bait first. Your pony won't look mint but the improvement is amazing! I just had to tell you all! I can't wait to post this on the Arena! I know we all have 'that' pony in our collection who would be gorgeous if not for her terrible tinsel! Try it! Let me know how you do!
BEFORE:
Having done this a little bit, I have found that the tinsel fairs better if the mane and tail are washed and conditioned first... I tried this technique on a second pony without first washing her and noticed that there was more breakage overall...
STEP ONE: SEPARATE TINSEL FROM HAIR.
GRASP END WITH TWEEZERS.
PULL TAUT, THEN GENTLY STRETCH THE TINSEL.
THE TINSEL WON'T LOOK PERFECT, BUT VASTLY IMPROVES.
IN PROGRESS:
The ends of the tinsel will likely be kinked and obviously slightly longer than the rest of the mane... this can easily be trimmed for a cleaner look...
THE FINAL RESULT:
