I took apart an earth pony and all of my pegacorn Buddy Ls. The pegacorns can have their batteries replaced. You unscrew the saddle and take it off and slowly work off the rear half of the pony so as not to ruin the mechanism. You will see an area for three AAA batteries. Be careful prying out the 21 year old likely exploded batteries because that acid really hurts on your fingertips. Two of my pegacorns worked fine with new batteries. My childhood one did not possibly because of corrosion and possibly because I played with it soooo much as a child. The earth pony was unsuccessful. The only way into the body is through the head. Immediately I ended up ripping off the wires that go to the jewel in her head just from taking the head off. Then I pried out the mechanism. The little computer panel was glued into place and so I pried that off to reveal three button cell batteries. Of course at this point I already knew I would not be putting this mechanism back together so I just threw the components out and now have a regular hollow pony.
