Has anyone else noticed the semi-recent increase in fakies at the Arena? It seems like every few days a thread pops up trying to identify a fakie, or to do a fakie price check.
To me, this is both a good and bad thing. While I'm thrilled that more people are starting to embrace fakies...I'm also concerned about how it will affect prices and availability.
I mean, when I fell in love with Totsy six months or so ago, people were nearly giving them away. I don't think I paid more than three dollars for any of them. Flash forward to now. I look at the threads where people are asking which fakies are sought after....and Totsy is mentioned? I did a double-take at that one. I now have the burning desire to start snatching up Totsys left and right before their prices start to rise. (Don't worry, other Totsy collectors. I can't afford to do that, even though I want to. LOL)
What do you think the future of fakies will be? Is PRnS the next Mimic? Or do you think that most MLP collectors will stick with the real thing, despite being forced to own a million Pinkie Pies?

I have noticed a recent trend in them for some reason, I think it has to do with the new line being so boring, collectors are looking for something interesting to collect.
I have had some pretty insane quotes on fakie proces from people, I dont understand how some pretty easy to get hold of fakies could be worth as much or more than the real deal P: I mean, PRnS for example I can understand, every heard should have one of her lol

Oh I definitely think that it's directly related to the Core 7. People end up with 30 Pinkie Pies, and brand name starts to seem less important. Fakies are always new and exciting, with new ones being produced and discovered all the time. Somebody on the Arena said that she has inside info that Hasbro is planning something exciting for the MLP line, but she can't share any details for obvious legal reasons. All she would say was that what she knew has been suggested in the thread by members eager to guess what it was....and guesses ranged from boys, to SS, to seaponies, to no more Core 7...so it could be pretty much anything. My money's on seaponies, since a Hasbro rep apparently said "probably" when asked about seaponies at one of the conventions. (Versus a "probably not" when asked about boy ponies.) So, if Hasbro really does do something exciting, I'd expect a drop in fakie interest for a bit. Off-topic, but would anyone else be amused if they released seaponies of the Core 7? Everyone is so excited for the announcement...and then ends up with another version of Pinkie. /hijacksownthread

I think personally hasbro should release some boys, I need some more gay couples in my heard XD seaponies would be cool though ;D
I think core 7 seaponies would be pretty cool too - they'd look pretty I think, but, then again god knows what theyre likely to do with the pose, they might wind up looking like a worm with an oversized head or something P:

I also suspect Hasbro's poor offerings have something to do with the surge of interest in fakies. I think there are slightly more people collecting, but there will always be mostly purists who don't want it if it's not real MLP, regardless of how hideous the line becomes (apologies to anyone who likes the Bore 7 and G3.5s--I know I'm ranting and it's purely a matter of taste). I think most people are just waking up to the fact that they might be able to sell the fakies they are throwing away, rather than actually collecting themselves. Prices on the popular ones will go up a little, but we're still very much a niche market and most of the HTF ones (aside from those sought by non-fakie collectors, like PRnS, Mexican brothers, takara babies, and such) are still fairly cheap. We might see some prices drop as more collectors, especially those in fakie-rich areas like Europe and Australia , start posting them for sale. Have you noticed how the price on takara baby fakies has gone down? It used to be hard to get one in any condition, and they were snapped up quickly at $40 each. Now the price is down to $35, sometimes lower, as more become available and collectors have more selection in color and condition. The danger is always that MLP collectors will start asking $3-5 for any fakie, even if it's one of those really cheap Remco knockoffs or ubiquitous CPK hybrids with the glass eyes. I don't like the fact that fakies are selling for more in stores, either. It seems as though the manufacturers/marketers are trying to take over MLP's market as the official line shrinks, and assume they can charge nearly as much as the real thing for lesser quality fakies. It will be interesting to see how it all pans out. Have I said that I really want to start my own fakie line? The problem is that all the manufacturing is done in Asia now and US factories don't even have the technology to make them!

Gosh if all of this is true I certainly picked a bad time to get interested in Totsys and Frumpets lol
That being said, I think there are so many fakies in the world that even if prices go up for certain ones, there will still be cheap ones out there. I don't see the price of magic ponies going up much, they cost me 99p to buy one as a kid.
So far the most expensive fakie I've seen in a store was £2.00 [Maybe about $4.00?] and it was a better quality fakie to be sure.

I have noticed that too - an auction here - cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320454677466&ssPageName=STRK:MEDWX:IT - with PRnS in, with postage quite a lot of money. I thought she went for £7 ish? But I couldn't see anything else in the lot of interest apart from the other fakies! (There could be a HTF G3 in there but I don't know) I have also definitely noticed the Asda glass eyed fakies (I guess you get the same ones in Walmart) have taken over the store aisles and charity shops since MLP went boring. I think its a shame, but surely Hasbro have noticed this trend and whatever goddies they have for us in the future I hope is based on the normal ponies rather than uglyhead ponies or Bore 7....
