On Ahrian's fakie guide she has chubby ponies shown on the G1 page. She says they read "© 1997 M.M. Made in China". I've found one of these ponies in a thrift store this weekend. Its yellow with pink hair and pink hooves and two purple horseshoes with pink stars as a symbol. It was very hard to read the stamp on the belly so I wiped blue poster paint over it to highlight the letters. Mine says "© 1997 M. I. J. Made in China". Now the last letter could be an "I" with a poorly stamped serif, but its definately not "M.M." I though I'd post this in case anybody might know which company could be MIJ. I half expected to see "M.T.I." when I went over the lettering, which I would have expected to be Multi Toy Inc, but this was not the case.

I didn't think about doing that to mine. I have a blue one (I think she is blue... gah, I hate not having my stuff with me!) in my box o' fakies.
Hmm.. maybe when I go home to visit this month I will pull her out of my fakie bin and check to see what her belly says.

Sorry to double post, but since I am back in Alaska, I thought I would pull out what fakies I hadn't packed away into storage and photograph them. The Chubby Pony I have was one of them. I took a peek at her belly, and the markings on mine are very clear. They are "©1997 M.I.I." and then underneath that, "MADE IN CHINA". I would have tried to get a picture of the markings, but my camera is not very good, and does not have a macro setting on it.

The small purple pony is a small pony included in a double pack with a large pony from the "Princess ponies" series of the Magic Ponies line of toys.

She's gorgeous!!! I want one so bad, and almost got one but was flat broke. Congrats on getting her, btw.
MIJ... inevitably something Chinese I guess?

Okay, I can't believe I am now just realizing this. Mine says M.I.I., and I only just recently remembered that it stands for Meritus Industries INC. (but completely forgot that the chubby ponies said M.I.I. on them). And just today, I happened to be catching up on GotD, and a poster named oldmeritusman, who is apparently the son of the owner of Meritus, mentioned a pony line!
oldmeritusman:
How much you want to bet that these are the ponies he mentioned!

If that's the case then I need them all, mwah haha! I remember that user from a thread on the flocked ugly cow thing that looked like it came from Bitsy Bears. Great job thinking up that connection.

I hate to drag up this old thread, but oh gosh I'm just too surprised. I have been looking for an ID on a particular pony I own and it's been a rather fruitless endeavor. The fakie guide you mentioned is no longer present unfortunately, so I can't browse it--but this is enough! Here is the one I own: Strangely enough, she has an open-mouthed expression and a different pose from your pony, (as well as eye color) but if there was a potential line forming back then they may have had variations! The hair and hoof paint is the same type of pink though! I would like to note her eyes are painted in the opposite direction of the mold, I'm not sure if you have the same factory error: My pony has M.I.I. with a copyright of 1997 on her underside, which I did trace to the company Meritus Industries Inc. But there was such little information otherwise, what I've concluded is that she could have derived from one of possibly two pony lines by them. There's a copyright for a 'Fancy Ponies' line, and a copyright for a 'Lucky Ponies' line. Right now I'm assuming she's come from the Lucky Ponies line, since both she and your fakie have horseshoes incorporated on them. I haven't found much other than the copyrights, and absolutely no pictures to identify her until now, but maybe I just haven't been perusing the right guide. All the places I've checked have nothing on this particular fakie toy, unless I've missed it. So thank you for helping me confirm her origin! It's a bummer the line was shut down by hasbro, as I love everything about her, but I'm happy to see they come in different colors with different symbols! If anyone has more pictures or information on these ponies I'd love to see it.

I didn't think anyone was still active on these forums when I joined. :0 That's awesome!! Congratulations on finding so much information!! It's like detective work, right ? I joined this forum because I'm obsessed with Lanard ponies and it just doesn't seem like there's lots of places that actually discuss fakies/try to find out more about them. I thought no one was really using it either but then I figured, if we're all just thinking that and not posting, then the situation would never improve! I'm trying to put together a collector's guide for Lanard ponies, because I think, if other people could see them the way we do, there would be more people who collect! Maybe you could try the same thing for these ponies too ! So many of the old forums are outdated with broken pictures I almost feel like it's our duty hahaha. I mean, the more people who know about them, the more they'll be listed on ebay/at least thought of as "worth something" instead of being thrown away or passed over at the thrift store! Anyway, I love your pony!! Her eyes hide such secrets haha~!

Yesterday, there was one for sale on eBay with the title "Vintage My Little Pony 1997 Fakie Horse Rare Blue with Shooting Star Logo" but I think it may have sold already!! I hope the new owner posts a pic of her here.

Anyway, I love your pony!! Her eyes hide such secrets haha~! Yep, I was determined. I love researching fakies now, but so many sites have become dead or shut down, images have been deleted simply due to age, and photobucket restricting images made things so much worse! I've begun saving images on my phone and then cataloging them on Pinterest to try and preserve what's left. There's so much fakie info just lost to time and it can get frustrating. With an inactive forum site like this, it could eventually be shut down as well, so I've been combing through threads to save what I can. So many missing images, it's quite a bummer! I'm not too into lanards, but I do like the party ponies version with the painted muzzles, and the large donkey-like ones that don't really resemble the vintage or modern body molds at all. If you could show me your Lanard guide, maybe I could help add to it if I come across anything not already present there? Is it only an official Lanard guide, or fakies of them are also included? There are a lot of Lanard copies and I have trouble telling them apart at times. :T I did see that eBay auction too, maybe if it was in great condition I would consider it (looks like it has a stain or an age spot on the back of it's neck, symbol looks worn), but it's a little too expensive I've decided. Trust me, I've gone back to look at it several times but 13.75 for a single pony in 'okay' condition just isn't inticing enough, even as a grail. Maybe if it had three of them I would but thanks for letting me know!
