**tosses Dave some leftover homemade chicken nuggets** Nummy! Even better than McDonald's and probably healthier! My picky kids eat them plain, but I prefer them with rice and veggies in an orange sauce.
BTW, for those of you with food allergies and intolerances, how can I tell if my kids are having problems? My 5-year-old hardly eats anything but peanut butter jelly sandwiches, pizza, and cold cereal and is always complaining of stomach pain. I've told him he needs to eat healthier foods, but he would rather not eat dinner (and even miss dessert, if we're having some) than eat something he doesn't like. I realize that's probably a lot of the problem, but he has such a love-hate relationship with food I'm wondering if he is having trouble with lactose or glucose and doesn't realize that the kind of foods he is eating might be what makes him feel sick with no appetite. My sister has suspected that she is gluten and lactose intolerant for some time (pork makes her sick too, for some odd reason), and now my mom tested positive for gluten allergy so I'm really wondering.... He often has bad gas, constipation, and an allergic-type reaction on his skin.

Raindrop - Id take hin to your family doctor & have them run some tests to see if he does have any reactions to certain things, it could just be an excuse to not eat things he doesnt like, or he could actually have some real issues with certain food.
Id say with what you are describing he has an allergy though, to something that he likes :/

The only real way of telling an intolerance or (remember with an allergy you get really, really sick - like rashes and projectile vomiting and possible anaphylactic shock and stuff, so you KNOW you are allrgic and don't need a test; most people just have real bad intolerances) is to stop eating that food complately for three weeks. So with say dairy, it means cutting out all dairy products for three weeks and seeing if the symptoms dissapear. Its quite hard to do - even packets of crisps have milk powder in! If you;re fine after three weeks you know you have an intolerance to what yo ucut out. If the symptoms persist, re-introduce the first food and cut out the next for another three weeks.

LOL, Raindrop, your five year old sounds EXACTLY like my three year old! Peanut Butter and Jelly!!! Won't eat anything. He wants dessert and sweet things, but he'd rather not have that than eat something he doesn't want.
As far as allergies go, if you do think he has an allergy ask your pediatrician to refer you to an allergist. A good allergist will do the tests to find out. I have a co-worker who is just recently extremely allergic to both gluten and soy (I don't know how she survives). She really recommends having that test done so you can know instead of messing around and just guessing for years. If you think it's just an intolerance then I don't think it would show up on the allergy test, but your pediatrician should be able to work with you on that.
Now, SarahLouise has good advice, there's just one problem: if he's allergic/intolerant to more than one thing that does not work.
On the other had he could just be picky. I was like that as a kid (and seriously skinny) and my son is the same way. He complains of stomach pains because he doesn't eat sometimes! Or he'll also complain when he's had only sugar. He's bad, I struggle with him soooo much.

I am intolerant to more than one thing - it just takes a long time to work out exactly the things that kick off the symptoms! I have been told here in the UK there is no actual test for food intolerance - there is for allergies but usually you know about that anyway. But Shellebelles right - best person to speak to is your doctor

... I had a feeling I shouldn't have opened this thread... LOL I'm a vegetarian! Nothing like a BK Whopper with Cheese, minus the meat, though. Yummy! (Or a Big Mac with tomato slices instead of meat). Those are really good!
