Hello there! ASL 23/f/the Baltics
I started out as a pegasister, that discovered the world of customization, but stumbled upon two sad things. 1)original MLP's are darn expensive 2)I can't really get anything apart from G4 in stores here (the Baltics), and G4 sculpts are ugly and not horselike enough. Hovever I can get my hands on some fakies, if I dig through central market or dingy toy stores.
As we know, some fakies have different innards than their nobble sisters, so I wanted to gather some info about do's and dont's, get some ideas, stuff, you know....

The vast majority of fakies have very similar insides to the offical MLP. Their hair is always put in through plugs and held by glue (from what I've seen) but many fakies have their tails held in the same way, instead of the traditional method (a washer and clip) so I recommend ripping those tails out and drilling or cutting a hole in the butt (the tool you use depends on the thickness of the plastic, hard plastic should always be cut with a drill) If you do use the drill get someone else to hold the pony steady and be careful! I've also noticed that many fakies have very cheap hair plugs that often tear or aren't cut all the way through. The ones that teared aren't a huge problem because they'll be covered up with hair (but you careful rehairing in those plugs!) but with the ones that aren't all the way through you can either cover them up with sculpty or apoxie sculpt (I recommend the latter because for many fakies putting it in the oven to dry is a bad idea) or take a pin and carefully push it through and move it around to make a proper plug.
